This is how every episode of Shirley Holmes starts. Her famous ancestor reading the letter she finds.
What happened exactly? When Shirley was around 12 she found a trunk in the attic. She found the secret to opening it and read the letter Sherlock left there. From that moment onward she had his deducting powers.
Shirley is obsessed with solving mysteries. Once she started something she can't let go. This fact is showed several times during the show, but the most touching one of them all is the search for her mother who disappeared in Rwanda several years ago. Although most people say she's dead, Shirley still believes she is alive.
In the first episode she met her trustful associate Bo Sawchuk. She helps him by proving he wasn't the one that set the buildings on fire. Bo, in his turn, helps Shirley on several occasions.
Like any hero, Shirley also has an archenemy, a nemesis,
who is always trying to cross her.
For Shirley that is Molly Hardy. It sounds like Moriarty,
which is probably not incidental.
Molly first came to Sussex Academy (the private school
Shirley attends) in episode 2 "The Case of the Ruby Ring" and turned out
class president. A position she used in further episodes to cross Shirley.
Most fans of the show agree Molly is the ultimate enemy
you can find in any show. She is really evil. Even when Shirley has proof
Molly is involved in something illegal, Molly always finds a way to get
of the hook. Most of the time using blackmail.
Most fans also see a romantic involvement growing between Bo and Shirley, although they both dismiss is by saying: "Where just friends." Somehow this friendship is different.
